Astute people might recognize where that title is from, but I'm not giving any hints. But it's relevant, in a way, to what I will be talking about, in that that simple line gives more wisdom than most will ever realize.
Admittedly, I'm not going to read the article Kotaku links to, because I have video games to waste 100 hours on, but the author of the articled linked seems to miss just that: video games in general are a waste of time. No one has a task to fill EVERY minute of their day, regardless of how melodramatic they want to be about it. Some people have varying degrees more than others, sure, but everyone has a little bit of free time throughout the day at some point. Some people fill that free time complaining about how little free time they have, some people fill it reading the same boring ass story they have read 100 times before. Some read the news paper, some people masturbate, and some people play the same story they have played 100 times before in a video game.
Whatever it is you choose to do in your free time, the fact of the matter is, its a time waster. I could be doing something else right now, like filing my taxes, but I don't feel like it, so instead I'm cruising websites and making inane comments about someone's perception of whether or not video games are a waste of time while not realizing that both they and I are just wasting time to begin with. When you go to work, you have to be there for so many hours, and you can either waste time doing what you are supposed to be doing, or doing something that you're not supposed to be doing, so you can clock out and go home and waste more time to start the cycle all over again.
Point is, that is all anyone does is waste time, because there is just so fucking much of it. Even when there is "no time," all you are doing is wasting time until there is.
